Ultrasonography

The Why

Bedside ultrasound is invaluable in emergency medicine as it can aid in the rapid diagnosis of an undifferentiated patient (i.e. patients in whom a diagnosis is unknown and who may need urgent, life-saving interventions). It is also cheap and useful in settings where access to other imaging modalities such as x-rays or CT scans may not be easily accessible to patients.

What We do

Below is a note from the Head of Department at KATH, Dr. Maxwell Osei-Ampofo:
“In low-resource settings such as Ghana where most radiological investigations are not readily available, point of care ultrasound helps enormously in the differentiation and resuscitation of acutely ill and injured patients. The Butterfly ultrasound donated to us through this foundation will thus contribute significantly to the prevention of deaths and disabilities. The Emergency Medicine Directorate is very grateful for this kind gesture.”

Through extensive research and collaboration with local communities, we take meaningful, data-driven approaches. By continuously collecting, analyzing, and applying real-time data, we are able to identify high-impact interventions, allocate resources effectively, and tailor our strategies to the specific needs of different populations. This evidence-based methodology ensures that our programs remain adaptive, targeted, and outcome-focused.
